Trying new things – Phoenix Fashion Photographer

I’m still working on it … trying to grow and take my photography in the direction I always knew I wanted.

Fashion.

This has been a year of photography self discovery for me.  I’m learning.  Growing.  Putting myself out there more.  Taking risks and trying new things. And … eeeek!  It’s so exciting!!

In my process of moving toward this goal I had the awesome opportunity to spend last weekend with three amazing fashion photographers; to be mentored, taught, and coached by the best in the valley.  I seriously could not stop smiling all day.  I felt like a sponge … trying to soak up all their experience, advice, tips and tricks.  I loved watching them work and then getting the chance to work next to them gave me serious butterflies in my stomach!

As a completely self-taught photographer, I always have this looming question in the back of my mind:  ”Am I doing any of this right?  Am I making all of this up?”  It can be super destructive at times.  But other times it pushes me.  Pushes me to keep learning, refining, and growing.  And thank goodness, because I know that it’s my thirst for learning that drives me to change and try new things.  Bring it on I say!

So, here are a few images I snapped last weekend as I tried something new … in studio, tethered to lights.  Didn’t think I’d ever do it.  But fashion photography will sometimes take me into the studio … so learn it I must.  And ya know?  It was way cool.

More images to come … I photographed five models that day.  Super rad experience.

I love watching your passion, talents, and confidence grow through your experiences!! You amaze. Hopefully you’ll still consider doing families, too … selfish, I know ;)

I love these pictures!! They are just fabulous works of art. I love how the first model has that plush skirt, pearls, and vintaige feather. The way her hair was done added to the overall effect. The other models are neat because of how one is all serious and the other is smiling. The way you captured the light is very impressive. Good Job! keep up the good work. :D

Thanks for stopping by Karen! You’re sweet! The models did look amazing, huh? But I forgot to mention that wardrobe and styling of the first model was done by Helen Robson. I was {in LOVE} with that bustle on the back of her dress for sure!
