Amanda – Senior/Teen Styled Photography – {Part 1 Bohemian Beauty}

Ok … first things first!!

WELCOME TO THE NEW BLOG!!!  Ta-da!!!  I’ve got a new logo, a new brand, and even a slightly new name!  These changes have been in the works for months now and I’m super excited to show them all off!  The site is still a bit under construction … I mean, who knew I’d have to make a decision about how thick of a line I wanted between posts??  I am so not that detail oriented.  But seriously …  I’m in LOVE with everything so far!!  Hope you are too and you’ll come around … a lot!!

Now, the shoot.  Where do I even begin?  I guess at the beginning!  Ha!

A few months ago I received some really great advice.  I was told that if I wanted to start shooting styled and fashion photography, I just needed to go out and do it!  Simple really.  But it was a light bulb moment for me and I guess I was just ready to accept it.  So I decided to go for it.  I started developing some concepts and spent hours pouring over the work of some of the photographers I admire.  I studied their use of light, the story they told, and their use of locations.  I realized I had a lot to learn.  But sometimes you just gotta learn by doing!

I decided that I wanted to shoot high school seniors first … 1) Cause I {LOVE} them and 2) because styled senior photography is something I’ve always wanted to offer my clients.  My concepts … Vintage locations.  Two looks.  One pretty, colorful, and flirty and one natural, simple, and soft.  A Colorful Cutie and A Bohemian Beauty.

I didn’t want professional models … but the girls had to be special.  When I found them, I knew they’d be perfect.  With my seriously talented Sis along with me, we started to pull together their looks.  We shopped until our fingers were black with hanger-smudge and accessorized until our feet ached.  It was aaaawe-some! (can you hear me singing that?)  I scouted out locations and designed mood boards for the shoot.  We brainstormed on the concepts for hair and makeup and assembled a great team. The whole process took about a month to plan.  And, all the while I was giddy, seriously!!

The day of the shoot, I have to admit, I was nervous! You know, that feeling you get when you’re so close to something you’ve been dreaming about for weeks?  I was excited, humbled, and so ready!  I decided to totally ignore the weather forecasts for thunderstorms … although I kept obsessively checking on it (ha-ha!) … and just tried to trust that we would find a way to make it work.  And, we did.

I’m seriously proud of the images created on this shoot … I learned so much and know that still have so much to learn.  But most of all, I could not have done this without some amazing talent along with me.  Thanks so much to Adrianne Brees for styling, hair, and makeup … I love to watch you work and love what we create when we’re together.  Thanks to Desiree and Ashley our assistants on hair … you guys created some killer curls that day!  A HUGE shout out to Salon Estique for allowing us to use the salon as home base and for sponsoring the hair and makeup looks!  You guys are awesome and we couldn’t have done this without you!  And finally, thanks to Amanda and Taylor … my models for the day.  You gals were incredible, gorgeous, and really … so fun to be with!

First up to post  is Amanda … meet our Bohemian Beauty.

May I be the second to comment… WAAAAAA-HOOOO!!! OMG! OMG! OMG!!! I am SO proud and excited to see these images that I could tinkle in my pants (I already had ants in my pants, so what’s a little extra?! haha!). All joking aside, though, Bethany — you are sensational. Seriously. And I cannot wait to see our Colorful Cutie: Taylor, and the full impact of your concept come to life! I couldn’t be more proud of you, Bethany. Seeing this post made every moment of our smudgie-fingered shopping, outfit restyles, hair challenges, weather panics, vision boards, and fire ant attacks totally and completely worth it. Thank you for inviting me to share and participate in this adventure with you and helping make your vision a reality. I am honored. WE DID IT!!
