Celebration Challenge – Day 24 – Take better pictures 2!

Hey guys!  We're on Day 24 of my challenge and I can hardly believe it's almost over!  This has been quite an adventure for me and I'm really excited about all the response I've been getting.  So, thanks again for following along!  And super double thanks if you've shared me with a friend!

If you haven't already … hop on over and 'Like' my new Captured Photography Facebook page.  I have to admit, I'm totally not techie minded so it's still not complete and pretty.  But, if you've liked my work this past month, then show this girl some love!!

In return, I'm showing you some LOVE right back by sharing three of my favorite tips for taking better pictures.  We've talked about celebrating life all month and that even the littlest details are worth taking pictures.  So, I hope I can help you make those pictures better!

So, how did you do yesterday with the rule of thirds?  Did you pull out your camera and give it a shot?  Or did you notice this rule used in all kinds of image media?  Pretty cool, huh?   Well, let's move on to the second rule …

Composition Rule #2 – Framing

This rule makes a picture sooo interesting but it's a little harder to achieve.  You really have to train your eye.  But, give it a shot … you'll love the results.  This rule is all about using objects create a visual frame around your subject. It's easiest if I show you … remember this picture from earlier this month?

In the above shot, I used the soda bottles to frame Jax's face.  I had to position myself on the other side of the table and shoot through the bottles.  They created a perfect frame for his little face … which was full of candy, BTW!

 Here's another example …

In this image I had to move a couple feet from where I was originally standing to see this ladder creating a perfect frame for my subject.  I focused on her face and shot through the wood.  The frame really gives the image a lot of dimension.

One last example and then it's your turn!  The alley I was shooting in during this session was pretty bare, so we did something kind of random in order to create some framing.   Just silly fun, but again, I think it adds some interesting dimension to the image.

Okay guys … go try it for yourself and let me know how it turns out!  Remember, sometimes a great framing shot just means moving over a foot or two and seeing the image from a different angle!

Until tomorrow!

Hugs!

Woo hoo Congrats on day 24! These are great examples! Even I sometimes forget to look for ways to frame! The pictures definitely look so creative with the frames!

Great examples. Thanks for the tips. I have a feeling that even if I followed them my pictures wouldn’t turn out half as good. Plus I don’t have that cutie Jax as a model.

So amazed by your talent and creativity! I am not sure if I did the same thing it would come out looking so great. You have a eye for these things and use it wisely.

Can you share a tip on how to get a non-picture-taker to take more pictures?! lol Mom’s our resident take-enough-pictures-of-peyton girl… If it weren’t for her, Peyton would grow up with like 4 pictures of herself and/or her mommy.

Hey I was checking the last two days and for some reason your webpage would never load the new posts. I hope I am still in the running? I have heard your rule of thirds before and have used it! My pictures are never like yours though.

I have been such a SLACKER! And look what I’ve missed! Such a fun idea to get your followers practicing on their own cameras! I totally want to get mine out! So proud of your month long goal. You have come so far! You rock girl.
